Library Learning and Teaching: Welcome sessions

The Library Learning, Teaching and Research Services (LTRS) team's mission is to deliver information literacy resources across all disciplines and course levels. Discover our teaching program for your students and how we support researchers.

Welcome sessions see Library staff offering a friendly "hello" to all new undergraduate and postgraduate students, including those joining us on apprenticeship routes.  They highlight key library resources and services which will help students to engage with BCU Library & Learning Resources.  This is a light touch, with a focus very much upon demonstrating how we are a friendly and accessible department of the university.

During this session we cover such aspects as visiting and borrowing from our libraries; using our Library Search engine; finding support through online Chat and Subject Guides.

We have a flexible approach to delivery and are keen to work collaboratively to develop a session to meet the needs of your students.

Digital literacy skills

BCU Library & Learning Resources staff recognise the importance of encouraging students (and staff) to assess and develop their digital literacy skills as an important part of their lifelong learning.

As such, we actively promote and encourage the use of the JISC Digital Discovery Tool to enable students to develop skills such as creativity, communication and collaboration, whilst also maintaining a safe and professional presence online.

Along with the JISC tool, BCU Library & Learning Resources have developed a Digital Skills Moodle site to support students in their development of information and digital literacy skills.
