How to borrow items from the library

Borrowing Items

1. Visit bcu.ac.uk/library and enter your search terms.

2Once you have found the book you are looking for click on the title of the book to see if copies are available.

3. Note down the shelf mark of the book, staff are available to help you find items in the library.

4. You will need your ID and PIN number to issue the item using one of our self service machines.

Borrowing Information

You can borrow up to 20 items from the library.

Items are loaned for 2 weeks. 

Reference only items cannot be taken from the library.

Our auto renewals will renew your items on loan for a further two weeks, unless:

•    They have been reserved by another user
•    They are orchestral sets or other performance material
•    They are Inter-Library Loans
•    They are Laptops

If an item has been reserved by another borrower you will be notified by email and have one week to return the item.

Issue, Return, Renew

Self issue machines are situated around the library at each campus.

  1. Scan your ID card
  2. Enter your PIN number
  3. Place your items on the pad - you can place several items on top of each other.
  4. Click to print a receipt, or receive an email of items issued to you. Please ensure all off your items have been issued. 

During opening hours you can return items via the self issue machines. 

  1. Select return option on the machine
  2. Place your items on the pad - ensure all of your items have returned
  3. Tick for a receipt
  4. Place items in the returns box/trolley.​​​​​​​

Out of hours there are book drops in front of the library buildings. 

Automatic renewal: 

Items on your account will now automatically renew 1 week before their due date unless:

•    They have been reserved by another user
•    They have been renewed the maximum number of times
•    They are orchestral sets or other performance material
•    They are Inter-Library Loans
•    They are Laptops

One week before an items due date we will send a notification to your BCU email.

This will inform you if the item has been renewed for a further 2 weeks or if it has been reserved by another user. If the item has been reserved you will have 1 week to return the item.

 

Renewing using self issue machines: 

  1. Scan your ID card and enter your PIN
  2. Tap my account, this will list all of your loans and due dates.
  3. Tick the boxes of the items you wish to renew
  4. Tap the renew button.
  5. Ensure all have gone green and renewals have been successful
  6. Tap for a receipt. 

 

How to renew online:

1. Visit www.bcu.ac.uk/library and click on 'Sign in' - enter your BCU email and password

2. Click on the 'My Account' option then 'Go to my Account.'

 

 

3. Click on the 'Loans' tab at the top

4. You can click 'Renew All' or 'Renew' next to each item if you only need to renew certain loans.

5. Please ensure all items have been renew successfully

You can also access your library account and renew via the library tile on icity.bcu.ac.uk
