Effective Information Searching
For postgraduates, searching skills is introduced in your Research Methods and Project Management module. Take a look at Gheyas and Abdullah (2016) or Kargar et al. (2024) as example systematic literature reviews.
For undergraduates, searching skills is included in one of your first year modules. The literature review process is applied in your final year module CMP6200/DIG6200 for the Individual Honours Project.
Literature reviews
Most recent reviews in cybersecurity (Abdullahi et al., 2022; Herath et al., 2022) in user experience design (Aldrees and Gracanin, 2023; Stige et al., 2023) in artificial intelligence (Chiu et al., 2023; Kaushal et al., 2023) and in games (Razami and Ibrahim, 2022; Rogers et al., 2022) follow the methodology of Kitchenham and Charters (2007) in software or the PRISMA statement (Page et al., 2021).
The key steps in building a systematic review consist of:
1. Planning the review
- Identify the need.
- Specify your research question.
- Develop the review protocol.
2. Conducting the review
- Identify research
- Select studies
- Quality assessment
- Data extraction
- Data synthesis
3. Reporting the review
- Specify dissemination mechanisms.
- Format the report.
