The links below take you to the web pages of the professional institutions who have accredited your course.

It also provides links to employability support resources. It is important for your future to stay in touch with the industry or the sector you are studying. Knowing the latest developments allows you to position yourself in a professional context when applying for placements and jobs.

There are currently over 228,000 people professionally registered as:

  • Engineering Technician (EngTech)
  • Incorporated Engineer (IEng)
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng)
  • Information and Communications Technology Technician (ICTTech)

In order to gain these titles, you first need to join a relevant professional engineering institution licensed by the Engineering Council to assess candidates. The Engineering Council maintains a list of the 39 professional engineering institutions which assess candidates for inclusion on the national register of professional engineers and technicians.

Automotive Engineering

The degree programme is accredited by the IET and the IMechE. Students completing an IET accredited degree are deemed to have met part or all of the academic requirements for registration as a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer and are in a strong position to move on to achieve professional engineering status after a period of initial professional development in industry. For BEng students, you must have a minimum of 4 years relevant industrial engineering experience at the appropriate level in order for you to achieve professional accreditation.

Our MSc courses are all accredited at full CEng level.

IET (The Institution of Engineering and Technology)

    Institution of Mechanical Engineers

Staff and students are often also members of other professional automotive organisations, such as:

  • IEEE Vehicular Technology Society

IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. Its Vehicular Technology Society is one of its societies composed of engineers, scientists, students, and technicians, interested in advancing the theory and practice of electrical engineering applied to land transport and vehicle electrotechnology equipment.

  • SAE International

SAE International is a global association of more than 128,000 engineers and related technical experts in the aerospace, automotive and commercial-vehicle industries.

  • SAE UK

SAE-UK incorporating the Institute of Vehicle Engineers is the oldest society solely concerned with the automotive industry.

Electronic Engineering

Your BEng degree programme is accredited by the IET at Partial CEng level. You will need to undertake further study to apply for CEng status. If you have the relevant industrial experience, you may be eligible to apply for Incorporated Engineer Level. You will need a minimum of 4 years relevant industrial engineering experience at the appropriate level to achieve professional accreditation.

The accredited MEng meets, in part, the exemplifying academic benchmark requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Accredited MEng graduates, who also have a BEng (Hons) accredited for CEng, will be able to show that they have satisfied the educational base for CEng registration.

Staff and students are often also members of other professional electronics organisations, such as:

Mechanical Engineering

The BEng/ MEng and the MSc. programmes are all accredited by the IET and IMechE.

IET (The Institution of Engineering and Technology)

    Institution of Mechanical Engineers

Staff and students may also be members of professional engineering organisations such as:

The Energy Institute is the chartered professional membership body for people who work across the world of energy. Its purpose is to  create a better energy future for its members and society by accelerating a just global energy transition to net zero.

The IED is the only professional body representing those working in the fields of Engineering and Technological Product Design.

IOM3 supports professionals in materials, minerals, mining and associated technical disciplines to be champions of the transition to a low-carbon, resilient & resource efficient society. ur activities promote and develop all aspects of the Materials Cycle, from exploration and extraction, to characterisation, processing and application, to product recycling, repurposing and reuse.
