AI Tools BCU Guidelines: Help and Advice

Learn when you can use generative AI while following academic integrity responsibilities and avoid academic misconduct.

The Centre for Academic Success (CAS) prepared video examples of using AI to study and an artificial intelligence (AI) tools decision tree to help you determine when it is appropriate or not to use AI tools based on the BCU's AI guidelines for students.

Examples of using AI to study

This video covers seven possible use cases of generative AI for study purposes:

  • Brainstorming
  • Understanding difficult concepts
  • Revising for tests
  • Time management
  • Practicing interviews
  • Planning / structuring
  • Finding sources

Remember to never enter personal or sensitive information into AI tools. For advice and guidance around academic writing, please visit CAS’s website.

AI tools decision tree

This decision tree is based on the BCU AI guidelines Frequently Asked Questions. Use the decision tree to determine when it is appropriate to use AI tools or when using AI tools could be considered as academic misconduct. You can also download the file to view it in your preferred PDF reader.
