The National Library of Wales and the National Library of Scotland also have vast resources to explore.

Check whether there is a library for any professional body of which you are a member e.g. RIBA, NHS etc.

Check your local university library to see what services are offered to the general public: is there walk-in access to electronic resources or can the building be used?

Public Libraries

Make use of your local public library. For example, the Library of Birmingham in Broad Street is one of 37 public libraries run by Birmingham City Council. You can join by visiting any of the Council's libraries with proof of your name and current address.

Across the UK, public libraries operate services such as:

Ebook services
Archives and local history
Services for local business
Database access, such as: COBRA (Complete Business Reference Adviser), Gale OneFile (newspapers) and Theory Test Pro (driving)
