Help & Support on Moodle

What modules has the Library on Moodle?

The Library and Learning Resources Moodle modules are non-credit and are designed to introduce students to the services and resources the department provides.

The skills you need to effectively exploit the information resources provided both through the Library and elsewhere are a part of your academic and professional development. They are generally termed information literacy. To be "information literate" you need to know how to effectively find and access information and to think critically about the information and how it can be used. Your information literacy skills influence the knowledge and understanding you bring to care as well as your ability to complete assignments to an acceptable standard.

You will not become information literate overnight. Just as with essay writing (academic literacy), IT (digital literacy) and numeracy skills, your abilities will improve over time as you gain expertise in the topics you choose to investigate and as you practice searching for, selecting, and evaluating information.

The Induction Moodle module introduces Library and Learning Resources and will act as a reminder of the services we provide following your classroom based induction.

The Informed Learning Moodle module looks at some of the resources (such as SUMMON and Reading Lists Online) you can use as well as planning and searching techniques to help you get started with assignments.

Use the tabs across the top of this box to select the appropriate Moodle module for your programme.

The Library and Learning Resources Induction module includes:

Getting Started: The basics of where the Libraries are, our opening hours and what you need to borrow books.

Using the Library's resources: Reading lists, finding books and journals, borrowing and returning items, managing My Account and reserving items.

Where to find help: Your librarian, Subject Guides, How we can help you, Where to find other help and the Centre for Academic Success
